Regulations mandated for ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) motor fuel in EU, Japan and USA demanding 10 – 15 ppmw S.

DS2Tech will pioneer the way.

The US and European Union have mandated ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel for on-road use to reduce particulate emissions from diesel engines. In Europe, the maximum sulfur content in diesel and petrol (gasoline) has been limited to 50 ppm since 2005. Furthermore, “sulfur-free” diesel and gasoline (<= 10 ppm) became mandatory from 2009. Similarly, in the US, refineries were required to start producing diesel of no more than 15 ppm beginning June 1, 2006. Also bunker fuel is being regulated down to 1% by 2010 and 0.1% by 2015 in emission control areas (ECAs).
